The three predominant teams at the premier league

The English Premier League or the Premier League as it is commonly called is contested by 20 clubs. Its sponsor is the Barclay’s Bank and so can be called Barclays Premier League also. A season is from August to May. The each team plays 38 games with a total of 380 games in a season. The Premier League was founded in 1992 with twenty two inaugural members.

The teams (in alphabetical order) were Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, Oldham Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wimbledon.

Manchester United won the first premier league and has been one of the leading teams ever since. In fact, it is the team with the most number of wins. Therefore, the signing up of the Frenchman, Eric Cantona from Leeds for 1.2million pounds was a good move. They also had Paul Ince, Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister and Ryan Giggs. It was Manchester United, which also won the 2008-2009 season. That would make it a total of 11 wins from the time of commencement. They also won the World Cup Championship and Carling Cup in 2008-09.

The winning seasons for Manchester United have been 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2002-03, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The next team to lead is Arsenal with three victories so far. The glorious years were 1997-98, 2001-02 and 2003-04.

In the year 1992, Arsenal won the League and FA cups even though they did not win the Premier League. Their first victory in the Premier League came after two years of manager Arsene Wenger’s hard work. He was responsible for the makeover of the team. Arsene was with them for 13 seasons and the team came either first or second for 8 of those seasons. The top players were Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.

In the year of their first win, that is, in 1197-98 season, they also won FA cup and FA Carling Premiership.

The third team to get the most number of wins in the Premier League is Chelsea. Its winning years were 2004-05 and 2005-06. The team was formed in 1905. It has had its ups and downs but has successfully stayed in the First Division from 1989 onwards.

It was later on that Roman Abromovich; the Russian billionaire paid 140 million pounds and bought the Blues. He appointed Mourinho as the new manger and that was a master move for Chelsea. For the first time, it won the Premier League cup.

The last season had Guus Hiddink who was in charge of the team even though he was still the coach of the national team in Russia. Carlo Ancelotti became the new manger since June 2009.

Chelsea played well in the last two seasons but was not good enough to beat Manchester United. It came second but will keep trying for the cup in the seasons to come, no doubt.
